Walk south on the alley path, cross a small rock-banked creek, and look on the west side. There a large native stone contains a tablet with an inscription that begins, ''Eureka, I found it', shouted a small band of hardy pioneers in August of 1857." It goes on to read that the cool clear water convinced these settlers that this was the 'ideal place' for their town site.

The path and the creek bank aren't well maintained but it's worth the effort to see the site where the words were uttered!
