Although 'Fighting Fred' Funston was a major figure in military history, few recognize his name. At his boyhood home you'll learn about the man who became a brigadier general at age 35, gained fame during the Spanish-American War, commanded such later military greats as Pershing, Eisenhower, Patton, and MacArthur, and led the response to the 1906 earthquake and fires in San Francisco. Funston's 1860s boyhood home was moved into Iola from the country and is a pleasing site sporting a white picket fence.
