Stapleton No.1 was the 1915 discovery well in the El Dorado oil field. Soon Oil Hill, a boomtown to support the industry, sprang up nearby. Use your imagination to picture 2,500 oil-field workers living here in 'shotgun' houses. A stone monument and an oil rig mark the well site.

The pictures show the driveway once you cross the cattle guard and an informative sign at the Vess Oil Corporation that you'll see about 1 /2 mile southeast of the cattleguard on Rocky Road.
