HISTORY

St. Mary's Mission

In 1848 Jesuit priest Father Hoecken established St. Mary's Mission to educate area Potawatomis. For about 10 years (1848-1858) the mission was the last point of civilization on the Oregon Trail before wagons reached Salt Lake City.
