OIL AND GAS

Sinkholes

Inman, KS | McPherson County

Oil exploration in the 1930s initiated these sinkholes scattered throughout the area. Seven sinkholes ranging in size from 1 to 10 acres and up to 15 feet deep can be seen at road intersections. The largest is four miles north of Inman on 8th, and the first and still growing sinkhole is at 10 and Arrowhead. Local legend has it that Sinkhole Sam, a mysterious creature also known as Foopengerkle, lives in the sinkhole at 10 and Arrowhead.
