The brick wall bearing the Highland College name stands as a memorial to Sophie Rubeti, a young Sac of the Iowa and Sac & Fox Mission. A plaque tells Sophie's story and why, following her death around 1861 at age 18, a lodge for Indian girls was built in her honor. When the lodge was razed in 1978, the hand-hewn bricks from its fireplace were used to build the memorial wall.
