HISTORY

Rome

Hays, KS | Ellis County

Founded in 1867, Rome was the first town in this area, established before the military fort and the railroad were built. Buffalo Bill Cody was a promoter of the new town and constructed its first stone building. From Main, go 1 mile west on 12th to see the tall stone marker that stands near the site of Rome.
