Post Rock Fence Posts

Russell County, Kansas

A constant roadside companion in this county is the post rock fence post. Much respect should be given to these time-honored posts, which average 350 to 500 pounds each, are five to six feet in length, and 8 to 12 inches thick. Each one is a remarkable tribute to the early settlers who solved their fencing problems by quarrying rock from the surface of the earth.
