
The pecan tree is native to southeast Kansas, and groves of them are plentiful along U.S. 166 coming into Chetopa from the east. Pecan harvest, usually in late fall, utilizes a mechanical device that shakes the tree; a pecan harvester then picks up the fallen pecans.
