Cotton Fields

Winfield, KS | Cowley County

Every year more cotton is grown in Kansas (in 2024, around 15-20 counties produced cotton). In September and October look roadside in the Winfield, Oxford, and Wellington (Sumner County) vicinities, as well as in Harper, Sumner, Pratt, and Reno Counties. The white fluffy stuff is visible in the wide-open bolls just before it's harvested. The oldest active cotton gin in Kansas is in Winfield. Outside of Cowley County you'll also find gins in the towns of Anthony, Cullison, and Moscow. For group tours, call.
