TOWN STORY

Paradise At Last

Paradise, KS | Russell County

In the 1880s when James Mead entered the wooded valley with a creek flowing into the Saline River, he exclaimed to his hunting companions, 'Boys, we have got into paradise at last!' The hunters' paradise was home to elk, black-tailed deer, buffalo, beavers, otters, and wolves. The valley, the creek, and the town are all named Paradise.
