Thanks to the Oswego Lady's Entertainment Society, the town has Riverside Park. In 1887 the society purchased an area overrun with scrub oak and brush for the purpose of developing a park. They deeded it to the city for one dollar in 1902. In the 1930s many structures—fountain, fishpond, shelters, pool and bathhouse—were built through a Kansas Emergency Relief Committee program and the WPA. An overlook atop a bluff offers a beautiful view of the expansive Neosho River Valley. A nearby historical marker describes the land's connection to the American Indians and the military. Narrow paved roads provide a lovely route through the park, which would make the Lady's Entertainment Society proud. (NRHP)
