Olive Ann Beech Marker

Waverly, KS | Coffey County

A large sign pays tribute to Olive Ann Mellor Beech (1903-1993) who, with her husband, Walter, established Beech Aircraft in 1932. After Walter's death in 1940, she became the first woman to head a major aircraft company. Waverly is proud to be the birthplace of this outstanding woman, known as the First Lady of Aviation. She was awarded many honors, including induction into the Kansas, the National, and the International Aviation Halls of Fame. Olive Ann Beech was a finalist for the 8 Wonders of Kansas People category.
