Naming of Enterprise

Enterprise is a town perfectly named since enterprising industry (milling and manufacturing) made the town viable and strong. Jacob Ehrsam built a gristmill on the Smoky Hill River in 1869 for his brother-in-law Christian Hoffman. Before long Hoffman's operation included a grain-storage elevator, a corn meal mill, and 33 grain-storage facilities in towns along the railroad.
