The first time basketball appeared in the Olympics was at the 1936 Summer Olympics, and six players plus Coach Gene Johnson from the McPherson Globe Refiners made up much of that historic squad. McPherson honors the achievement with a mural (Ash and Kansas), a giant brass 3D plaque featuring the Refiners team and their story (outside 122 E. Marlin), and the teamβs renovated home court inside the Community Building at the same address.
