Lawrence has a thriving arts community, and many of the murals and sculptures are found outdoors. Among the many colorful Dave Loewenstein works are "Guardians of the Arts" (722 Massachusetts) and "East Lawrence Waltz" (11th and Delaware). Lin Emery's sculpture, "The Flame" (6th and Massachusetts), symbolizes Lawrence's rebirth after Quantrill's 1863 raid.
