A narrow blacktop back road takes you on a scenic route from Elmdale to Cottonwood Falls. At the Chase County State Lake scenic waterfalls might be flowing (depending on rainfall) in the early spring. To find them, from the dam on the lake's north end, walk ΒΌ mile to the east end of the dam and follow the primitive trail north to the falls. Keith Stokes, Kansas Explorer #5648, reports that these are some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state.
