Kearny County Museum

Lakin, KS | Kearny County

Santa Fe Trail buffs will be delighted with the biographies of significant personalities connected with the trail, a 1939 aerial map of the Santa Fe Trail in Kansas, and an 1831 Conestoga freight wagon. In addition you'll see fossils, turn-of-the-century exhibits, and a small display about Fred Harvey's XY Ranch. The ranch was six miles east of Lakin and supplied all the beef for the Harvey House restaurants. On the museum grounds you're welcome to explore an 1876 Santa Fe depot, an 1893 schoolhouse, the 1875 O'Loughlin home, farm machinery, restored windmills, and a 1909 12-sided barn.
