Newly renovated, the excellent exhibits at the Kansas Museum of History (8 Wonders of Kansas History) tell the many fascinating stories of our state. The centerpiece remains an 1880 locomotive, one of the first to run on the newly completed Santa Fe railway. Nearby, a biplane of A.K. Longren, the first Kansan to build an aircraft that flew successfully, hangs from the ceiling. You'll see artifacts of famous Kansans such as Dwight Eisenhower, Carry Nation, and John Brown, and learn about our state in so many ways. A fine gift shop is filled with Kansas books, art, and many specialty items. The Great White Buffalo sculpture stands near the museum entrance. A nature trail meanders a little more than two miles through the prairie and woodland surrounding the Kansas History Center.
