Along with its early county history displays, the museum houses important photograph collections including 1939 aerial photographs of the Santa Fe Trail that show the wagon ruts in Haskell County, and a collection of F.M. Steele, a noted traveling photographer who recorded'with beautiful clarity'everyday life in Kansas at the turn of the 19th century. The museum complex includes a historic ranch home, a Santa Fe depot and 1967 Santa Fe caboose, agricultural equipment, and a rural schoolhouse.
