An estimated 25,000 acres of apple orchards in Troy, Blair, and Wathena made Doniphan County a major shipping point for local fruit growers during the 1920s and 1930s. From 1909 to 1945 fruit growers met in the sizable Wathena Fruit Growers' Association Building to work for fair market pricing. (NRHP)
