Having a presidential library in your state means one thing: a president once called it home. For Kansas, that's the 34th president, Dwight D. Eisenhower. The museum campus includes several buildings, so start at the visitor center to purchase admission and map out your visit.
The centerpiece is the Eisenhower Museum. Large lobby murals provide an engaging introduction to Eisenhower's life and legacy. New gallery exhibits offer a moving tribute to his role as Supreme Allied Commander during World War II and his accomplishments while president. Along the way, you'll learn about the Interstate Highway System, First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, and lesser-known facts, such as Ike becoming America's first television president.
Be sure to explore the rest of the campus, including Ike's boyhood home (NRHP), special exhibits in the research library, the 11-foot statue depicting Eisenhower as a WWII general, and the Place of Meditationβthe final resting place of Eisenhower, Mamie, and their infant son, Doud. 8 Wonders of Kansas
