The famous trail is marked by an engraved red granite boulder placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1906. This area is near the Battle of Bull Creek, an 1856 battle that cemented James Lane's reputation as a hero when he and a small militia defeated a large group of proslavery forces.
