This looming Italianate building is a historic anchor and icon on this busy corner of Main and U.S. 56. Constructed in 1887, it stood over underground businesses. In 1900 Mathias Dick bought the building and opened a hardware and farm implement store. Not until 1982 did restoration of the tunnels and underground shops begin, initiated by Dick's granddaughter and her husband, Adrianna and Dan Dierolf.
