Dick Building

Ellinwood, KS | Barton County

This looming Italianate building is a historic anchor and icon on this busy corner of Main and U.S. 56. Constructed in 1887, it stood over underground businesses. In 1900 Mathias Dick bought the building and opened a hardware and farm implement store. Not until 1982 did restoration of the tunnels and underground shops begin, initiated by Dick's granddaughter and her husband, Adrianna and Dan Dierolf. Today the Dick Building houses two antique stores. (RHKP)
