In recent years, the Denmark Preservation Foundation has done an excellent job of restoring the buildings of Old Denmark, including the Denmark Hall which now servers as a community center. Volunteers have also created a website to preserve the local history and organize events to help preserve the unique Danish culture of the immigrants who founded the former town.
One instance of those events was hosting visitors during the Big Kansas Road Trip (a Kansas Sampler Foundation project) by opening the church for tours and opening the Denmark Hall to demonstrate how an old Danish culinary favorite called "Aebelskivers", a type of rounded pancake, were made. They even invited visitors into the kitchen to teach them how to make them. And, the best part was eating these delicious pillowy treats topped with powdered sugar, jam or syrup.
