WaKeeney is known as the 'Christmas City of the High Plains.' Since 1950s volunteers have decorated a four-block area of downtown during the holidays. A beautiful spectacle is created with thousands of lights, miles of electrical wiring, fresh greenery and garland, and the centerpiece'a 35-foot-tall tree of fresh pine. All year round colorful Christmas tree sculptures dot main street, celebrating the town's claim to fame and immense source of community pride.
