HISTORIC HOME

Bertrand Home

Logan County, Kansas

With cropland surrounding it, this three-story house, home to the Bertrand family for more than 20 years, stands like a monument to an earlier time. The window glass is long gone and tin has replaced the shingles, but you can still see the second-story porch on the south side where the five kids slept. This limestone-block house, built in the early 1920s, was abandoned in the late 1940s.
