Designed by the first state architect, John Haskell, the 1872 native stone school sits atop a grassy knoll. Why the three front doors? The middle door opened to a staircase to the second floor (second floor was removed in circa 1900). And the other doors? One was an entrance for boys and the other an entrance for girls. The bell tower and the tall, narrow masonry window and door openings create a stately and picturesque building. (NRHP)
