When you see it, you'll understand why this 100-year-old, two-story Collegiate Gothic school still draws attention from passers-by. Many are so spellbound that they pull over or drive back to take photos. Built in 1916, Alexander School has a distinctive Flemish Bond pattern, made with rough-cut native limestone, on the corners of the facade. The limestone is a beautiful contrast and accent to the red brick on the majority of the building. A 1930 gymnasium that stands to the north was built in the same style. The school closed in 1966, and both buildings are now privately owned.
