9545 NW U.S. 24. From Lake, 1 ¼ miles south and east on U.S. 24. Strong evidence suggests that this is the oldest standing house in Kansas, built in 1827 from native stone. It was constructed as the winter quarters for a U.S. Army survey party while it surveyed Indian lands following the treaty of 1825. Private residence, drive by only.
