Reverend Thomas Johnson

Johnson County, Kansas

Organized in 1855, the county is named for the Reverend Thomas Johnson, a Virginia slave owner who came to Kansas in 1829 to establish the Shawnee Methodist Mission. Johnson operated the mission until 1858.
