Born in Russell in 1923, Dole served from 1968 to 1996 in the U.S. Senate and was the Republican nominee for president in 1996 against incumbent Bill Clinton. You can see Senator Dole's home at 1035 N. Maple (drive-by only), a limestone carving of him in the beautifully restored courthouse at 401 N. Main, and a large limestone marker with a plaque dedicated to the senator at the entrance of the VFW building at 248 N. Memorial (Bob Dole Dr.).
