TOWN NAME

Naming of Cawker City

In 1871 it was decided that the winner of a rousing game of poker would have the privilege of naming the newly formed town. Holding the winning hand was E. Harrison Cawker. In 1914, in honor of her father, Lenora Cawker presented the town with a drinking fountain. The fountain and a large water trough are on the west side of City Park on Lake.
