This cemetery on a small rise provides excellent views of the lake and the town. A simple gravestone is all you'll find for Henry W. Landes, so here's the story. A veteran of the Civil War, Landes re-enlisted in the marines and was assigned to guard the body of John Wilkes Booth. Landes also was a guard at the White House on the day of Lincoln's funeral, and later he guarded Booth's accomplice prior to his hanging. Landes later came to Kansas. To find his gravestone, turn east at the second intersection and go six rows east. His is the fourth marker (with a Civil War marker) and two cedars are just to the north.
