In 1875 William Hickerton brought a wagon train of 35 families to this area, which he named Zion Valley. The first structure built was the Church of Jesus Christ, also called the Mormon Temple. An elder declared the town would never be destroyed by a tornado as long as someone from the faith lived in town. Services are no longer held in the little white church, but a brass plaque on a limestone base preserves its history.
