Little House on the Prairie

Independence, KS | Montgomery County

Laura Ingalls Wilder, well known for her Little House books, lived here briefly with her family when she was a child in 1869-1871. Visitors will find an open rural setting comprising a reproduced cabin, an 1872 schoolhouse, post office, 1920s barn, 1880s farmhouse, and a gift shop. When the buildings are closed, signage is available to guide you through the delightful site. Donation welcome.
