Tale of the Turtle
The 3,600 pound concrete turtle sculpture at the Parsons Arboretum was a beloved feature at the former skating rink. There he provided a place for generations of kids to sit while waiting for parents to pick them up—even after a drunk driver hit him and knocked off his head. The city moved the huge sculpture to the top of the wetlands dam and hired a sculptor to reattach his 350-pound head. Once again children can climb on the revived turtle, who is happily at home in the arboretum park. From Wilson and 21st, just north off Wilson.
