Southwest City Cemetery

Eudora, KS

Southwest City Cemetery

Sycamore and Cedar. From W. 12th, ½ mile south on Cedar. This long strip of grass with a row of trees is the location of Eudora’s first cemetery, founded in 1857. Ten years later a new cemetery was established elsewhere and the original became a burial ground for the town’s black citizens. A simple sign in a stone base marks the cemetery. The grave stones are small and modest so look carefully to find them. Information about Eudora’s immigrant and black history can be found at the Eudora Community Museum.
