Nicodemus National Historic Site

304 Washington. Start your visit to this national park in the limestone Township Hall, a 1939 WPA project. A video and large interpretive signs relate the beginnings of this historic town and the people who lived here. Originally founded in 1877, Nicodemus soon was home to 300 black settlers. By the mid-1880s it was a prosperous town, but good times were short-lived. More than 130 years ago the town boasted two newspapers, three general stores, three churches, some small hotels, a school, literary society, ice cream parlor, bank, livery, and many homes. Thursday-Monday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (NRHP)
