Mariadahl Orphan Home and Cemetery

Across from Olsburg Cemetery (north side of K-16). A large concrete and granite marker relates the story of the orphan home, established in 1879 in the original Mariadahl settlement. Named for Maria Johnson, the first Swedish pioneer to die in this new settlement, the home cared for 620 children from 1880 to 1959. Closed due to the construction of Tuttle Creek Lake, the home was buried under lake waters, but the graves were moved to this location.
