Little Drummer Boy
From Main, 1½ miles north on 8th, then 4 blocks west on Spruce to Neodesha Cemetery. One of the cemetery’s interesting gravestones, shaped like a drum, is that of Frank “Cutty” Cartwright, an orphan who was known locally as the “little drummer boy.” In 1885 he was killed in a freak train accident and, improbably, was buried next to the engineer who drove the train that ran over him. To find Cutty’s grave, enter through the cemetery’s brick pillars at the northeast end of the old section and continue north. Cutty’s gravestone is on your left, just past the drive to the GAR memorial marked by a cannon and a statue. Brochures for a cemetery walking tour are available at the chamber office, 1st and Main.
