Lane Trail

From Main, 1¾ mile north on U.S. 75 to a pull over on the west side of the road. Lane Trail, named for free-state leader James Lane, was established to bypass proslavery strongholds and provide a safe route for free-state settlers and slaves. A historical marker explains that the rock piles marking the way were known as “Lane’s chimneys."
