Fredonia Historic Water Tower

From 8th, 4½ miles west on Washington, then 450 feet south on Decatur. This old vine-covered, red-brick water tower rises high and features a crenellated parapet reminiscent of a medieval castle turret. It’s quite a sight. Before electricity, gravity brought water from the tank in the wider north tower down to the nearby house and farm. The narrower south tower likely housed stairs leading to the top of the structure, which was built around 1900. It stands on what is locally known as the old Pratt place, formerly the farm of the Pratt family who once owned a local cement company.
