Alton, KS

Founder Marker

Mill and Nicholas. Under the limestone Alton sign, a granite marker commemorates town founders Hiram C. Bull and Lyman T. Earl. In 1870 these men flipped a coin to determine if the town would be named Bull City or Earlsville. Bull won the flip but after he died, the town name was changed to Alton in 1885.
