Downtown Wellington Historic District

When an 1881 fire and an 1892 tornado destroyed downtown buildings, community leaders took the opportunity to coordinate their rebuilding efforts. The result was a series of structures in matching design. These made Wellington home to the second longest Italianate historic district in the state. You can see this beautiful row of buildings in the 100 block of Washington, one part of the historic district, whose boundaries roughly are 10th, 4th, Jefferson, and Washington. All historic district structures are included in the historical walking/driving tour. Brochures are available at the visitor information kiosk, 123 N. Washington. (NRHP)
