City of Native Stone

The many historic Cottonwood Limestone buildings have earned Alma the designation City of Native Stone. The Downtown Historic District (NRHP), on Missouri between 2nd and 5th, comprises 21 buildings of architectural significance built between 1880 and 1936. Self-guided tour brochures are available at the newspaper office (323 Missouri), the Wabaunsee County Museum (227 Missouri), and the Antique Emporium (322 Missouri).
