Augusta Historical Museum
The oil industry has been vital to Augusta’s history, and its saga is told here in addition to exhibits about the town, pre-1800s through the 1950s. The C.N. James Log Cabin (NRHP), built as a trading post in 1868, served many purposes and is one of the few log cabins remaining in Kansas on its original site. C.N.’s wife, Augusta, was the inspiration for the town’s name. Visit the blacksmith’s shop complete with tools and coal-fired forge from the late 1800s. Monday-Friday 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.; Saturday 1-4 p.m.
