1899 Limestone Jail

Center and Madison. Long after J.C. Holland designed the Kansas State Capitol, he was the architect for the Jewell County jail and sheriff’s residence. Created from native limestone with a brown streak, this double-walled jail (in use until 1978) is topped with a striking galvanized metal cupola. (NRHP)
