This park was platted in 1883 by Robert Wright, an 1860s plainsman who rose to prominence as an eminent Dodge City cattleman and entrepreneur. The park's signature structure is the grand 1919 Hoover Pavilion, a Spanish style stucco building named for George Hoover who is credited with platting the Dodge City town site and who became its mayor and a prominent businessman. Within this beautiful and historic park is a zoo, band shell, and the Liberty Garden. A DAR marker and a plaque note the presence of the Santa Fe Trail, 1822-1872.
