Look for a tall stone tree stump engraved 'Woodmen Circle' above the name Maggie McKeon. Woodmen Circle was a women's auxiliary of the Woodmen of the World, an 1890s fraternal organization that helped members during financially difficult times. Members carried life insurance policies that provided for these customized and hand-carved gravestones. The tombstone program, which created an obvious identity with the organization, ended in the 1920s, although the Woodmen Circle still exists today.
